We argue that traditional experimental psychology faces a fundamental Precision-Breadth-Simplicity impossible trinity: precise experimental findings are often fragmented, while broad theoretical notions tend to remain ambiguous. The best way forward is to embrace some complexity as a necessary cost—and to strive for research that is both precise and broad through the Comprehensive Exploration (CE) approach (see detailed descriptions). A list of published and ongoing projects using this approach is available here.
A particularly noteworthy category is large-scale collaborative CE projects (see details), which may offer greater effectiveness compared to traditional large-scale collaborations (e.g., adversarial collaborations).
